'''Paul Mathers''' (born 17 January 1970) is a Scottish professional footballer and coach. He is currently the goalkeeping [coach](/source/Coach_(sport)) at [Scottish Premiership](/source/Scottish_Premiership) side [Dundee United](/source/Dundee_United), appointed in July 2023.

==Career==

Between 1986 and 1996, Mathers made 132 appearances for [Dundee](/source/Dundee_F.C.), before moving to [Falkirk](/source/Falkirk_F.C.), where he played 91 times in three years. In 1999, he moved to [Linfield](/source/Linfield_F.C.), making 63 appearances until a transfer back to Dundee in 2001. In his second stint at Dundee, which lasted for only one season, Mathers did not make a league appearance and was loaned out twice. He moved on in 2002 to [Peterhead](/source/Peterhead_F.C.), where he made 164 league appearances.

Mathers signed with [St Mirren](/source/St_Mirren_F.C.) in 2007. He did not make a first team appearance for St Mirren as he was employed primarily as a goalkeeping coach, but he continued to hold a playing registration. Mathers was an unused substitute for a 2-2 [SPL](/source/Scottish_Premier_League) draw at [Inverness Caledonian Thistle](/source/Inverness_Caledonian_Thistle_F.C.) on 29 March 2014, aged 44.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/26694264 |title=Inverness CT 2–2 St Mirren |work=BBC Sport |publisher=BBC |first=Charles |last=Bannerman |date=29 March 2014 |access-date=11 September 2015}}</ref>

He moved to a coaching position with the [Rangers](/source/Rangers_F.C.) academy on 6 August 2015.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/9792-new-academy-staff-appointments |title=New Academy Staff Appointments |work=www.rangers.co.uk |publisher=Rangers FC |date=6 August 2015 |accessdate=11 September 2015 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150924125606/http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/9792-new-academy-staff-appointments |archive-date=24 September 2015 |url-status=dead }}</ref> Later in August 2015, Mathers moved to a first team coaching position at [St Johnstone](/source/St_Johnstone_F.C.).<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.perthstjohnstonefc.co.uk/newsitemsdetail.php?param=3746 |title=PAUL MATHERS INSTALLED AS NEW GOALKEEPING COACH |work=www.perthstjohnstonefc.co.uk |publisher=St Johnstone FC |date=23 August 2015 |accessdate=11 September 2015 |archive-date=4 March 2016 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160304100029/http://www.perthstjohnstonefc.co.uk/newsitemsdetail.php?param=3746 |url-status=dead }}</ref>
