**Patuakhali-2** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh). Since February 17, 2026, [Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami](/source/Bangladesh_Jamaat-e-Islami) central activist and former [Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir](/source/Bangladesh_Islami_Chhatra_Shibir) president [Shafiqul Islam Masud](/source/Shafiqul_Islam_Masud) has been member of parliament for this constituency.

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Bauphal Upazila](/source/Bauphal_Upazila).[2]

## History

The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973.

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[3] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[4]

Ahead of the [2014 general election](/source/2014_Bangladeshi_general_election), the Election Commission reduced the boundaries of the constituency by removing two [union parishads](/source/Union_parishad) of [Patuakhali Sadar Upazila](/source/Patuakhali_Sadar_Upazila): Kamalapur and Lohalia.[5][2][6]
