# Patrick Weiten

**Patrick Weiten** (born 1 July 1954) is a French politician and engineer who has been the president of the [Departmental Council of Moselle](/source/Departmental_Council_of_Moselle) since 2011. A member of the [Union of Democrats and Independents](/source/Union_of_Democrats_and_Independents) party, Weiten also served as a [Member of the National Assembly](/source/Member_of_the_National_Assembly_of_France) for [Moselle's 9th constituency](/source/Moselle's_9th_constituency) from 2016 to 2017.

## Early life and education

Weiten was born on 1 July 1954 in [Yutz](/source/Yutz), within the [Moselle](/source/Moselle_(department)) department, [France](/source/France).[1]

## Political career

Weiten first entered politics in 1995 when he was elected mayor of [Yutz](/source/Yutz), a position he held until 2011.[2]

On 16 April 2016, Weiten became the [deputy](/source/Deputy_(France)) for [Moselle's 9th constituency](/source/Moselle's_9th_constituency), after the death of [Anne Grommerch](/source/Anne_Grommerch) the day prior.[3]
