==Military career==
Man was [commissioned](/source/Officer_(armed_forces)) into the Hampshire Regiment (later the [Royal Hampshire Regiment](/source/Royal_Hampshire_Regiment)) in 1933.<ref name=lh>[http://www.kcl.ac.uk/lhcma/locreg/MAN1.shtml Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives]</ref>

He served in [World War II](/source/World_War_II) initially as a Staff Captain with [22nd Infantry Brigade](/source/22nd_Guards_Brigade) and then as a [General Staff Officer](/source/General_Staff_Officer) with [4th Infantry Division](/source/4th_Infantry_Division_(United_Kingdom)), with the [War Office](/source/War_Office) and then with the [Staff College, Camberley](/source/Staff_College%2C_Camberley).<ref name=lh/> In 1943 he was appointed Assistant Quartermaster General at the Headquarters of the Supreme Allied Commander for [South East Asia Command](/source/South_East_Asia_Command) moving on to be Director of Administration Planning there in 1944.<ref name=lh/>

After the War he became Assistant Adjutant General at the [War Office](/source/War_Office) before becoming a General Staff Officer at the [Imperial Defence College](/source/Imperial_Defence_College) in 1952.<ref name=lh/> He served in [Malaya](/source/Federation_of_Malaya) during the [Malayan Emergency](/source/Malayan_Emergency) from 1954 and then became Director of Administration Planning at the War Office in 1956.<ref name=lh/> In 1958 he moved to the War Office and in 1959 he went to the [British Army of the Rhine](/source/British_Army_of_the_Rhine).<ref name=lh/> He was made [General Officer Commanding](/source/General_Officer_Commanding) [Aldershot District](/source/Aldershot_Command) in 1963 and Director of Personal Services (Army) at the [Ministry of Defence](/source/Ministry_of_Defence_(United_Kingdom)) in 1966; he retired in 1968.<ref name=lh/>

He was also [Colonel Commandant](/source/Colonel_Commandant) of the [Military Provost Staff Corps](/source/Military_Provost_Staff_Corps) from 1967 to 1972.<ref name=lh/>
