'''Patrick James Stirling''' [FRSE](/source/FRSE) LLD (1809–23 March 1891) was a 19th-century Scottish lawyer and author on law and economics. He was the leading lawyer in western [Perthshire](/source/Perthshire).

==Life==
He was born at [Dunblane](/source/Dunblane) in 1809, the son of Mary Graham (d.1846) and her husband, Robert Stirling (1765-1817). He studied law at the [University of St Andrews](/source/University_of_St_Andrews) and the [University of Edinburgh](/source/University_of_Edinburgh).

In 1848 he was elected a Fellow of the [Royal Society of Edinburgh](/source/Royal_Society_of_Edinburgh), his proposer being [James Haldane](/source/James_Haldane).
