The **Passenger-Only Fast Ferry**, also known as the **Chinook class**,[1][2] are ferries built by [Dakota Creek Industries](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dakota_Creek_Industries&action=edit&redlink=1) in [Anacortes, Washington](/source/Anacortes%2C_Washington) for [Washington State Ferries](/source/Washington_State_Ferries) beginning in 1998. They are unique in the system for being propelled by [water jets](/source/Pump-jet) rather than traditional [propellers](/source/Propeller). With these jets, they travel at the very high speed of 38 knots.

There was opposition to the ferries due to allegations of [beach erosion](/source/Coastal_erosion) in [Rich Passage](/source/Rich_Passage) caused by their [wake](/source/Wake_(physics)). The state settled these claims for $4.5 million in 2002.[3]

In 2009, both vessels were sold to [Golden Gate Ferries](/source/Golden_Gate_Ferries) which uses them on the [San Francisco](/source/San_Francisco) - [Marin County](/source/Marin_County) run.

The **Passenger-Only Fast Ferry Class** ferries include:

- [MV *Golden Gate*](/source/MV_Golden_Gate) (Formerly **MV *Chinook***)

- [MV *Napa*](/source/MV_Napa) (Formerly **MV *Snohomish***)
