**Pascal Jansen** (born 27 January 1973) is a Dutch professional [football](/source/Association_football) coach and former player who is the head coach of [Major League Soccer](/source/Major_League_Soccer) club [New York City FC](/source/New_York_City_FC).

He played youth football, but his career was cut short due to a knee injury.

## Early life

Jansen was born in [London](/source/London),[1] England to Hans Jansen and [Sue Chaloner](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sue_Chaloner&action=edit&redlink=1) [[nl](https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sue_Chaloner)].[2] His father is a Dutch musician, and his mother an English pop singer who was a member of the musical duo [Spooky and Sue](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spooky_and_Sue&action=edit&redlink=1) [[nl](https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spooky_and_Sue)]. He moved to the Netherlands at a young age and was raised in [Zaandam](/source/Zaandam).[3] He holds dual Dutch and British citizenship.[1]

## Playing career

Jansen played youth football for [AZ](/source/AZ_Alkmaar), [Ajax](/source/AFC_Ajax), [Haarlem](/source/HFC_Haarlem) and [Telstar](/source/SC_Telstar), but retired due to a knee injury before making his professional debut.[4][5][6]

## Coaching career

### Early career

Jansen spent his early career coaching in the Netherlands at [Haarlem](/source/HFC_Haarlem), [Vitesse](/source/SBV_Vitesse) and [Sparta Rotterdam](/source/Sparta_Rotterdam), and in the United Arab Emirates with [Al Jazira](/source/Al_Jazira_Club) and [Al Wahda](/source/Al_Wahda_FC).[4]

### PSV

Jansen worked as a coach at [PSV](/source/PSV_Eindhoven) between 2013 and 2018,[4] and was manager of [their youth team](/source/Jong_PSV) between July 2015 and June 2017.[7]

### AZ

He moved to [AZ](/source/AZ_Alkmaar) to work as a coach in July 2018,[8] before being promoted to manager in December 2020, on a contract until the end of the season.[4] He was dismissed on 17 January 2024 after narrowly avoiding a [KNVB Cup](/source/KNVB_Cup) upset against amateur club [Quick Boys](/source/Quick_Boys).[9]

### Ferencváros

On 13 June 2024, he was appointed as the manager of Hungarian side [Ferencváros](/source/Ferencv%C3%A1rosi_TC).[10][11] He debuted with a 5–0 victory over [The New Saints](/source/The_New_Saints_F.C.) in the [2024–25 UEFA Champions League qualifying phase](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_UEFA_Champions_League_qualifying_phase_and_play-off_round) at Groupama Aréna in Budapest on 23 July 2024.[12][13] On 3 August 2024, he debuted in the [2024–25 Nemzeti Bajnokság I](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_Nemzeti_Bajnoks%C3%A1g_I) with a 1–0 victory over [Kecskeméti TE](/source/Kecskem%C3%A9ti_TE).[14] On 31 December 2024, he left Ferencváros.[15]

### New York City FC

On 6 January 2025, Jansen was named head coach of New York City FC on a four-year contract.[16]
