It was [endemic](/source/Endemism) to the island of [Raiatea](/source/Raiatea) in the [Society Islands](/source/Society_Islands) of [French Polynesia](/source/French_Polynesia).<ref name=iucn/> It is known from a single shell collected in 1992, and no individuals have been found since then.<ref name="iucn" />

The [International Union for Conservation of Nature](/source/International_Union_for_Conservation_of_Nature) officially declared this species [extinct](/source/Extinction) in June 2024. Like many other snails of the Society Islands, its extinction can be attributed to the introduction of the [rosy wolfsnail](/source/Euglandina_rosea) (''Euglandina rosea'').<ref name=iucn>{{cite iucn |author=Gerlach, J. |year=2024 |title=''Partula magistri'' |article-number=e.T102425998A102426004 |doi= |access-date=28 June 2024}}</ref>
