The **Panalatinga Creek** is an [urban watercourse](/source/Urban_stream) located in the southern suburbs of [Adelaide](/source/Adelaide) in the Australian state of [South Australia](/source/South_Australia).

## Course and features

Part of the [Onkaparinga River](/source/Onkaparinga_River) [catchment area](/source/Drainage_basin) that drains the western slopes of the [Mount Lofty Ranges](/source/Mount_Lofty_Ranges),[2] the creek rises in the foothills in the southern Adelaide suburbs around [Chandlers Hill](/source/Chandlers_Hill%2C_South_Australia) through to [Trott Park, South Australia](/source/Trott_Park%2C_South_Australia) and reaches its [confluence](/source/Confluence) with the [Field River](/source/Field_River%2C_South_Australia) near the [Southern Expressway](/source/Southern_Expressway_(Australia)). Now no more than a narrow suburban watercourse, Panalatinga Creek's earliest European recorded use was as the source of water for [John Reynell](/source/John_Reynell)'s early vineyards around his [Chateau](/source/Chateau) [Reynella](/source/Reynella) homestead in 1849.[3]

## Etymology

The name of the creek is derived from the [Kaurna language](/source/Kaurna_language) word of *Pandlotinga*, and is sometimes mispronounced as *Panatalinga*.
