Most inhabitants of the village are Native [Tiriyó](/source/Tiriy%C3%B3_people) Amerindians. == Overview ==
The village was visited three times by ''[basiya](/source/Granman)'' Lodewijk Schmidt, a [Saramaka](/source/Saramaka) Maroon from [Gansee](/source/Gansee), who had been hired by the Surinamese government to contact and map the Amerindians living in the interior of Suriname.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://sipaliwinisavanna.com/docs/reisverhaal_baasschmidtvangansee.pdf |title=Baas Schmidt van Gansee|author=F.H.F. == Energy ==
