***Pallidogramme*** is a [genus](/source/Genus) of [lichen](/source/Lichen)-forming [fungi](/source/Fungi) in the family [Graphidaceae](/source/Graphidaceae).[2] It has 8 species of [corticolous](/source/Corticolous_lichen) (bark-dwelling), [crustose lichens](/source/Crustose_lichen).

## Taxonomy

*Pallidogramme* was proposed in 2008 by the lichenologists [Bettina Staiger](/source/Bettina_Staiger), [Klaus Kalb](/source/Klaus_Kalb), and [Robert Lücking](/source/Robert_L%C3%BCcking), as a [replacement name](/source/Replacement_name) for *Leucogramma* A.Massal. The justification for this change originated from the previously established *Hemithecium* subgen. *Leucogramma* by Staiger in 2002. There was, however, a pre-existing generic name, *Leucogramma* A.Massal., which was based on the same species as Staiger's subgenus, *Hemithecium chrysenteron*. Both of these names were unusable at the genus level due to their [homonymy](/source/Homonym_(biology)) with *Leucogramma* G.Mey. a name with unknown [taxonomic](/source/Taxonomy_(biology)) affinity. As a result, a new name was deemed necessary to avoid confusion and maintain nomenclatural clarity.[3]

## Description

The defining features of genus *Pallidogramme* include a [crust-like](/source/Crustose_lichen), [bark-dwelling](/source/Corticolous_lichen) [thallus](/source/Thallus), fully formed labia, a predominantly [inspersed](/source/Glossary_of_lichen_terms#inspersed) [hymenium](/source/Hymenium), and an [exciple](/source/Glossary_of_lichen_terms#exciple) which is non-[carbonized](/source/Glossary_of_lichen_terms#carbonized), displaying a spectrum of colours from pale yellowish-brown to reddish-brown, accompanied by internal striations. Moreover, it possesses [ascospores](/source/Glossary_of_lichen_terms#ascospores) that range in colour from pale brown to brown, and that turn reddish-brown when [stained](/source/Staining) with [iodine](/source/Iodine) (I+).[4]

*Pallidogramme indica* was proposed as a new species from India in 2009,[8] but it was not [published validly](/source/Validly_published_name);[9] a similar situation occurs with the proposed *Pallidogramme undulatolirellata* A.Dube & Makhija (2009),[10] and *Pallidogramme bengalensis* B.O.Sharma & Khadilkar (2011).[11][12]
