**Paige Courtney S. Sandhu** (born 28 October 1992) is an English actress. She began her career with appearances in *[Doctors](/source/Doctors_(2000_TV_series))* and *[Endeavour](/source/Endeavour_(TV_series))*, before being cast as [Meena Jutla](/source/Meena_Jutla) in the [ITV](/source/ITV_(TV_channel)) soap opera *[Emmerdale](/source/Emmerdale)* (2020–2022). For her portrayal, she received critical acclaim, won Best Villain at the [*Inside Soap* Awards](/source/Inside_Soap_Awards#2021_winners) two years in a row and won [Best Leading Performer](/source/Best_Leading_Performer) at the [2022 British Soap Awards](/source/2022_British_Soap_Awards).

## Early life

Paige Courtney S. Sandhu was born in [Orpington](/source/Orpington), [Greater London](/source/Greater_London), on 28 October 1992 to an Indian father and English mother.[1][3][4][5][6] Her father is a dentist and her mother is a Pilates instructor. Sandhu has three siblings.[7][8] After attending the [Guildhall School of Music and Drama](/source/Guildhall_School_of_Music_and_Drama), Sandhu suffered from social anxiety, fear of judgement and fears about her future career. She moved back in with her parents and "became quite reclusive".[9] She felt unsafe around people she did not know which led her to not leave the house much, as well as developing [insomnia](/source/Insomnia) and various food intolerances.[9]

## Career

Sandhu made her debut in television appearances in the [BBC](/source/BBC_One) soap opera *[Doctors](/source/Doctors_(2000_TV_series))* and the [ITV](/source/ITV_(TV_channel)) drama series *[Endeavour](/source/Endeavour_(TV_series))*.[10]

In September 2020, it was announced that Sandhu had been cast in the ITV soap opera *[Emmerdale](/source/Emmerdale)* as [Meena Jutla](/source/Meena_Jutla), the sister of established character [Manpreet Sharma](/source/Manpreet_Sharma) ([Rebecca Sarker](/source/Rebecca_Sarker)).[11] In June 2021, it was confirmed that Meena would become a serial killer on the soap.[12] Sandhu received critical acclaim for her performances as Meena,[13][14] and in 2021, she won the award for Best Villain at the [*Inside Soap* Awards](/source/Inside_Soap_Awards#2021_winners), and was nominated for Best Newcomer.[15] In 2022, she was nominated for an award in the Soap Actor category at the [TRIC Awards](/source/TRIC_Awards).[16] Sandhu has confirmed that after the conclusion of Meena's serial killer arc, she will be leaving the soap.[17] Her final scenes aired on 18 April 2022 when her character was sentenced to life in prison.[18] In 2023, Sandhu was announced to be starring in the film *Lioness*.[19] She was set to portray [Princess Sophia](/source/Sophia_Duleep_Singh), who was one of the key leaders of the [suffragette movement](/source/Suffragette_movement) in the UK.[20] However, it was not took to production.[21]
