**Padraig McCarthy** (born 18 July 1977) is an Irish Olympic [eventing](/source/Eventing) rider.[1][2]

Representing Ireland, he competed at the [2015 European Eventing Championships](/source/2015_European_Eventing_Championships) at [Blair Castle](/source/Blair_Castle) where he placed 9th in team eventing.

McCarthy was selected to compete at the [2016 Summer Olympics](/source/2016_Summer_Olympics) in [Rio de Janeiro](/source/Rio_de_Janeiro).[3] He did not complete the [individual event](/source/Equestrian_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Individual_eventing) as he was eliminated after a fall during the cross-country stage. Irish team finished in 9th place in the [team competition](/source/Equestrian_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Team_eventing).
