# Paddy Mullally

**Patrick Joseph Mullally** (born 29 April 1976) is an Irish [hurling](/source/Hurling) coach and former player. At club level, he played with [Glenmore](/source/Glenmore_GAA) and at inter-county level with the [Kilkenny senior hurling team](/source/Kilkenny_senior_hurling_team).

## Playing career

Born and raised in [Glenmore](/source/Glenmore,_County_Kilkenny), [County Kilkenny](/source/County_Kilkenny), Mullally played hurling and [Gaelic football](/source/Gaelic_football) at all levels as a student at [Good Counsel College](/source/St_Augustine's_and_Good_Counsel_College,_New_Ross) in [New Ross](/source/New_Ross). He was part of the school's senior team that won the All-Ireland Colleges SBFC title after a defeat of [St Colman's College](/source/St_Colman's_College,_Fermoy) in 1993.[1] Mullally later attended [Waterford Regional Technical College](/source/Waterford_Institute_of_Technology) and won a [Fitzgibbon Cup](/source/Fitzgibbon_Cup) medal after a 1–19 to 1–08 win over [University of Limerick](/source/University_of_Limerick).[2]

At club level, Mullally first played for [Glenmore](/source/Glenmore_GAA) as a [dual player](/source/Dual_player) at juvenile and underage levels before progressing to adult level. He was a [Leinster Club SHC](/source/Leinster_Senior_Club_Hurling_Championship) medal winner in 1995, having earlier claimed his first [Kilkenny SHC](/source/Kilkenny_Senior_Hurling_Championship) medal. Mullally was part of Glenmore's [Kilkenny SFC](/source/Kilkenny_Senior_Football_Championship) title-winning team in 1998, before adding a second SHC medal to his collection the following year. He ended his career by winning a second SFC medal after a 2–07 to 0–10 win over [Muckalee](/source/Muckalee_GAA) in 2009.

Meally first appeared on the inter-county scene with [Kilkenny](/source/Kilkenny_GAA) as part of the minor team that won the [Leinster MHC](/source/Leinster_Minor_Hurling_Championship) title in 1994.[3] He progressed to the under-21 team and was a [Leinster U21HC](/source/Leinster_Under-21_Hurling_Championship) medallist before losing to [Tipperary](/source/Tipperary_GAA) in the [1995 All-Ireland U20HC final](/source/1995_All-Ireland_Under-21_Hurling_Championship_final).

As well as being part of the under-21 team, Mullally began his association with the [senior team](/source/Kilkenny_senior_hurling_team) in 1995.[4] He spent a number of years as a dual player at senior level and served as [captain](/source/Captain_(sport)) of the [Kilkenny senior football team](/source/Kilkenny_GAA).[5] Mullally joined the senior hurling team on a full-time basis in 1999 and won the first of four [Leinster SHC](/source/Leinster_Senior_Hurling_Championship) medals that year.[6][7] He was an unused substitute when Kilkenny beat Offaly by 5–15 to 1–14 in the [2000 All-Ireland SHC final](/source/2000_All-Ireland_Senior_Hurling_Championship_final).[8] Mullally added a [National Hurling League](/source/National_Hurling_League) title to his collection in 2002, before collecting an All-Ireland SHC medal on the field of play after a three-point defeat of [Cork](/source/Cork_GAA) in the [2003 All-Ireland SHC final](/source/2003_All-Ireland_Senior_Hurling_Championship_final).[9]

Mullally and his brother [Richie](/source/Richie_Mullally) were unused substitutes for the [2004 All-Ireland SHC final](/source/2004_All-Ireland_Senior_Hurling_Championship_final) defeat by Cork.[10] Their father died on the day before the final.[11] Mullally withdrew from the panel in January 2005.[12]

## Management career

Mullally first became involved in team management and coaching at club level with Glenmore when he coached the club's under-21 team. He later served as a selector with the club's senior team when they won the [All-Ireland Club JHC](/source/All-Ireland_Junior_Club_Hurling_Championship) title in 2016. Mullally was involved in [camogie](/source/Camogie) coaching with the [Waterford Institute of Technology](/source/Waterford_Institute_of_Technology), before serving as a selector with the [Kilkenny senior camogie team](/source/Kilkenny_senior_camogie_team) when they won the [All-Ireland SCC](/source/All-Ireland_Senior_Camogie_Championship) title in 2016.[13] He took over as manager of the [Mullinavat](/source/Mullinavat_GAA) senior hurling team in 2018, before spending two years as a coach to the [Carlow senior hurling team](/source/Carlow_senior_hurling_team) under the management of his brother [Tom](/source/Tom_Mullally).[14][15]
