The PacBSD project began on an Arch Linux forum thread<ref name="forum" /> in April 2012. It aimed to provide an Arch-like [user environment](/source/user_interface), utilizing the [OpenRC](/source/OpenRC) [init](/source/init) system, the [pacman package manager](/source/pacman_(package_manager)), and [rolling-release](/source/rolling_release).
