He was known for following [Jaime Guzmán](/source/Jaime_Guzm%C3%A1n)'s political ideas and [Miguel Kast](/source/Miguel_Kast)'s economic views. Some of his close friends during his early years in the party were [Rodrigo Álvarez](/source/Rodrigo_%C3%81lvarez_Zenteno) and [Darío Paya](/source/Dar%C3%ADo_Paya). At the beginning of the 1990s, he was part of two youth directives in the party. Later, he became a member of the party's Political Commission. In 2010, after [Sebastián Piñera](/source/Sebasti%C3%A1n_Pi%C3%B1era)'s victory in the [2009–2010 presidential election](/source/2009%E2%80%9310_Chilean_general_election), he was appointed as the [Undersecretary of Mining](/source/Undersecretary_of_Mining_of_Chile), with [Laurence Golborne](/source/Laurence_Golborne) serving as the Minister.
