As a competitor, the {{convert|1.83|m|adj=on}} tall Lastras had a resting heart rate of 45bpm, and weighed {{cvt|68|kg}}. Lastras won a stage in the [2003 Tour de France](/source/2003_Tour_de_France) and picked up two stages in the [2002 Vuelta a España](/source/2002_Vuelta_a_Espa%C3%B1a). In 2005 he won stage 8 at [Tour de Suisse](/source/Tour_de_Suisse). He also won the [Vuelta a Burgos](/source/Vuelta_a_Burgos) in 2003.
