This gene encodes a [trypsinogen](/source/trypsinogen), which is a member of the [trypsin](/source/trypsin) family of [serine protease](/source/serine_protease)s. This enzyme is expressed in the [brain](/source/brain) and [pancreas](/source/pancreas) and is resistant to common [trypsin inhibitor](/source/trypsin_inhibitor)s. It is active on [peptide](/source/peptide) linkages involving the carboxyl group of [lysine](/source/lysine) or [arginine](/source/arginine). This gene is localized to the locus of T cell receptor beta variable orphans on chromosome 9. Four transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
