A 1993 [Human Rights Watch](/source/Human_Rights_Watch) publication titled ''Human Rights in Venezuela'', recognized PROVEA for creating "training programs for human rights activists throughout the country."<ref>{{cite book|last1=Rohde|first1=Clifford C.|title=Human Rights in Venezuela|date=1993|publisher=[Human Rights Watch](/source/Human_Rights_Watch)|isbn=9781564321145|page=15}}</ref>

In 2010 PROVEA received the [John Humphrey Freedom Award](/source/John_Humphrey_Freedom_Award).
