'''Protein phosphatase 1G''' is an [enzyme](/source/enzyme) that in humans is encoded by the ''PPM1G'' [gene](/source/gene).<ref name="pmid9276438">{{cite journal |vauthors=Travis SM, Welsh MJ | title = PP2C gamma: a human protein phosphatase with a unique acidic domain | journal = FEBS Lett | volume = 412 | issue = 3 | pages = 415–9 |date=Sep 1997 | pmid = 9276438 | doi =10.1016/S0014-5793(97)00837-5 | s2cid = 82436336 | doi-access = free }}</ref><ref name="entrez">{{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: PPM1G protein phosphatase 1G (formerly 2C), magnesium-dependent, gamma isoform| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=5496}}</ref>

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the PP2C family of Ser/Thr protein phosphatases. PP2C family members are known to be negative regulators of cell stress response pathways. This phosphatase is found to be responsible for the dephosphorylation of Pre-mRNA splicing factors, which is important for the formation of functional spliceosome. Studies of a similar gene in mice suggested a role of this phosphatase in regulating cell cycle progression. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.<ref name="entrez" />
