# PP3

**PP3** is [free software](/source/Free_software) that produces [sky charts](/source/Star_chart), focussing on high quality graphics and typography. It is distributed a license based on the [MIT License](/source/MIT_License), but with this restriction added:

If you copy or distribute a modified version of this Software, the entire resulting derived work must be given a different name and distributed under the terms of a permission notice identical to this one.

Sky charts are produced as [LaTeX](/source/LaTeX) files, so an installation of LaTeX and [Ghostscript](/source/Ghostscript) is required to obtain results in [PostScript](/source/PostScript) or [PDF](/source/Portable_Document_Format) formats. Knowledge of command line syntax for these packages is however not required, as PP3 can run the conversions automatically.

Initially [Wikipedia](/source/Wikipedia)'s own star charts were produced by PP3. PP3 generates maps in the [azimuthal equidistant projection](/source/Azimuthal_equidistant_projection).[1]
