The 20 metres (66 ft) long *Oyvon* was put in service under the German[a] [flag](/source/Ship_registration) in November 2025 as a replacement for the previous MSF vessel, the larger *[Geo Barents](/source/Geo_Barents)*, with a crew of 10 MSF crew including a doctor and a nurse.[1][2]

It formerly operated as an [ambulance vessel](/source/Water_ambulance) in [Norway](/source/Norway): its name means 'Hope for the island' in Norwegian;[3] *Oyvon'*s [MMSI](/source/MMSI) is 211180740.[4]

On its first mission, *Oyvon* rescued 27 migrants including minors.[5][6]
