**Owlcat Games** is a video game developer founded in 2016 by Oleg Shpilchevskiy and Alexander Mishulin. It is headquartered in Cyprus,[3] with a satellite office in Armenia. It is best known for developing [computer role-playing games](/source/Computer_role-playing_game) such as *[Pathfinder: Kingmaker](/source/Pathfinder%3A_Kingmaker)* (2018), its successor, *[Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous](/source/Pathfinder%3A_Wrath_of_the_Righteous)* (2021), and *[Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader](/source/Warhammer_40%2C000%3A_Rogue_Trader_(video_game))* (2023).

## History

Owlcat Games was founded in 2016 in [Moscow](/source/Moscow) by game developers who had previously worked on titles such as *[Heroes of Might and Magic V](/source/Heroes_of_Might_and_Magic_V)*, *[Silent Storm](/source/Silent_Storm)* and *[Etherlords](/source/Etherlords)*, and [massively multiplayer online role-playing games](/source/Massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_game) (MMORPG) such as *[Allods Online](/source/Allods_Online)* and *[Skyforge](/source/Skyforge)*.[4] After working extensively on MMORPGs, the studio pivoted to create single-player role-playing video games. Partnering with [Paizo](/source/Paizo) and publisher [Deep Silver](/source/Deep_Silver), the studio's first game, *[Pathfinder: Kingmaker](/source/Pathfinder%3A_Kingmaker)*, was partly funded through [Kickstarter](/source/Kickstarter) and released in 2018.[5] It received criticisms for its technical issues, and Owlcat spent months introducing patches and free updates to the game.[6]

Initially a studio within [My.Games](/source/My.Games), Owlcat raised $1 million in funding from investment firm Gem Capital in December 2019 for the development of another *Pathfinder* game, and became an independent studio.[7] The sequel, *[Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous](/source/Pathfinder%3A_Wrath_of_the_Righteous)*, once again partly funded through [Kickstarter](/source/Kickstarter), was released in late 2021 and sold more than 1 million copies.[8] The company's most recent game, *[Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader](/source/Warhammer_40%2C000%3A_Rogue_Trader_(video_game))*, was released in December 2023.[9]

In June 2025, Owlcat announced they were developing a new roleplaying game set in the universe of *The Expanse* [novels](/source/The_Expanse_(novel_series)) and [TV series](/source/The_Expanse_(TV_series)) titled *The Expanse: Osiris Reborn*. The game will feature an original story, third-person tactical combat, a customisable captain, and romances with ally characters.[10]
