**Oven Studios** is the personal recording studio of American singer-songwriter and record producer [Alicia Keys](/source/Alicia_Keys), located in the [Chelsea](/source/Chelsea%2C_Manhattan) neighborhood in [Manhattan](/source/Manhattan), [New York](/source/New_York_(state)).[1]

## Background

Designed by the [Walters-Storyk Design Group](/source/Walters-Storyk_Design_Group), the studio was originally located at 186 Glen Cove Avenue in [Glen Cove, New York](/source/Glen_Cove%2C_New_York). It features a grand piano and two isolation booths.[2] Keys says the building is reminiscent of her grandmother's house and has decorated the walls of the studios to include pictures of [Nina Simone](/source/Nina_Simone), [Janis Joplin](/source/Janis_Joplin) and [Bob Marley](/source/Bob_Marley).[3] Opened in 2005, Keys co-owns the studio with her production and songwriting partner [Kerry Brothers Jr.](/source/Kerry_Brothers_Jr.)[4] According to Walters-Storyk, the design was important to the acoustics of the building:

"In the live room, the design specified special acoustic wood slotted with holes that was imported from Europe. This wood, which is 50% absorptive, played an important function in evening out the overall frequency response."[2]

The studio was relocated to New York City by the recording of Keys' fourth album *[The Element of Freedom](/source/The_Element_of_Freedom)* (2009).[5]
