# Outram Island

**Outram Island** is an island of the [Andaman Islands](/source/Andaman_Islands). It belongs to the [South Andaman](/source/South_Andaman_district) administrative [district](/source/Districts_of_India), part of the [Indian](/source/India) [union territory](/source/Union_territory) of [Andaman and Nicobar Islands](/source/Andaman_and_Nicobar_Islands).[4] It is 72 km (45 mi) northeast from [Port Blair](/source/Port_Blair).

## Etymology

Outram is named after [Lieutenant-general](/source/Lieutenant-general_(United_Kingdom)) [James Outram](/source/Sir_James_Outram,_1st_Baronet).

## Geography

The island belongs to the [Ritchie's Archipelago](/source/Ritchie's_Archipelago) and is located west of [North Passage Island](/source/North_Passage_Island).

## Administration

Politically, Outram Island is part of [Port Blair](/source/Port_Blair) [Taluk](/source/Tehsils_of_India).[5]

The island is uninhabited.
