The **Outeniqua Pass** is a [mountain pass](/source/Mountain_pass) in the [Western Cape](/source/Western_Cape), [South Africa](/source/South_Africa), that carries the [N9](/source/N9_road_(South_Africa))/[N12](/source/N12_road_(South_Africa)) national road through the [Outeniqua Mountains](/source/Outeniqua_Mountains) north of [George](/source/George%2C_Western_Cape). It connects George and the [Garden Route](/source/Garden_Route) coastal plain with [Oudtshoorn](/source/Oudtshoorn) and the [Little Karoo](/source/Little_Karoo). It was constructed between 1943 and 1951, replacing the [Montagu Pass](/source/Montagu_Pass) as the main route from George to the interior.
