OTENET Type Public Industry Telecommunications Area served Greece Products Internet Services Provider, Telecommunications provider and Internet solutions

**Otenet** was a major [internet service provider](/source/Internet_service_provider) of [Greece](/source/Greece) established in 1995. The company is now consolidated into the parent company [OTE](/source/OTE). Otenet S.A. was an [S.A. (corporation)](/source/S.A._(corporation)) providing [Internet](/source/Internet) [products](/source/Product_(business)) and [services](/source/Service_(economics)). The major [shareholder](/source/Shareholder) of OTEnet was [OTE](/source/OTE). The other share holders were [NCSR Demokritos](/source/NCSR_Demokritos) ([Ariadnet](/source/Ariadnet)) and [National Technical University of Athens](/source/National_Technical_University_of_Athens) each holding 10,000 shares. [OTE](/source/OTE) eventually bought back the shares from these organizations in 2006.

## Performance

The quality of OTEnet's services was often described as 'inadequate'. Especially the poor performance of their networks on Greece's many small islands has drawn considerable criticism.[1][2][3]
