==History==
Originally named ''osoosooso'', the band began as a side-project EP released through Soft Speak Records.<ref name="punknews">{{cite web|title=Oso Oso: osoosooso (2014)|date=23 May 2014 |url=https://www.punknews.org/review/12700/oso-oso-osoosooso|publisher=Punknews|accessdate=3 April 2017}}</ref> Soon after, Lilitri decided to expand upon the project and shorten its name, citing misspelled tour flyers as one reason for the change.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.reddit.com/r/indieheads/comments/cnbzgu/ama_announcement_oso_oso_on_thursday_august_15th/ex088yf|title=r/indieheads - [AMA ANNOUNCEMENT] oso oso on Thursday, August 15th @ 3 PM PST / 6 PM EST / 10 PM UTC!|website=reddit|date=15 August 2019 |language=en|access-date=2019-09-02}}</ref> That same year, Oso Oso released a [split](/source/Split_album) with emo band [Free Throw](/source/Free_Throw_(band)).<ref name="modernvinyl">{{cite web|last1=Lantinen|first1=Christopher|title=FREE THROW, OSO OSO SPLIT ON SALE|url=http://modern-vinyl.com/2014/12/02/free-throw-oso-oso-split-on-sale/|publisher=Modern Vinyl|accessdate=3 April 2017|archive-date=April 3, 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170403203427/http://modern-vinyl.com/2014/12/02/free-throw-oso-oso-split-on-sale/|url-status=dead}}</ref> In 2014, Oso Oso released their first full-length album titled ''Real Stories Of True People Who Kind Of Looked Like Monsters'' on Soft Speak Records.''<ref name="newnoisemagazine">{{cite web|last1=Shrum|first1=Tony|title=Oso Oso's 'Real Stories Of True People, Who Kind Of Looked Like Monsters…' Out Today|url=http://newnoisemagazine.com/oso-osos-real-stories-of-true-people-who-kind-of-looked-like-monsters-out-today/|publisher=New Noise Magazine|accessdate=3 April 2017}}</ref><ref name="punknews1">{{cite web|title=Oso Oso: Real Stories Of True People, Who Kind Of Looked Like Monsters (2015)|date=18 June 2015 |url=https://www.punknews.org/review/13621/oso-oso-real-stories-of-true-people-who-kind-of-looked-like-monsters|publisher=Punknews|accessdate=3 April 2017}}</ref>'' In 2017, Oso Oso released their second full-length album titled'' The Yunahon Mixtape'' on Seal Mountain Records.<ref name="pitchfork">{{cite web|last1=Cohen|first1=Ian|title=Oso Oso: The Yunahon Mixtape|url=http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/22802-the-yunahon-mixtape/|publisher=[Pitchfork](/source/Pitchfork_(website))|accessdate=3 April 2017}}</ref><ref name="uproxx">{{cite web|last1=Hyden|first1=Steven|title=How Oso Oso Made 'The Yunahon Mixtape,' The Best Old-School '00s Indie Album of 2017|date=28 February 2017 |url=http://uproxx.com/music/oso-oso-yunahon-mixtape-jade-lilitri-interview/|publisher=[Uproxx](/source/Uproxx)|accessdate=3 April 2017}}</ref><ref name="[The Alternative](/source/The_Alternative_(online_magazine))">{{cite web|title=Oso Oso Sign To Seal Mountain Records & Announce Vinyl Preorders|date=3 March 2017 |url=http://www.getalternative.com/oso-oso-sign-to-seal-mountain-records-announce-vinyl-preorders/|publisher=The Alternative|accessdate=3 April 2017}}</ref> In January 2018, Oso Oso signed to [Triple Crown Records](/source/Triple_Crown_Records).<ref name="alternativepress">{{cite web|last1=Casteel|first1=Beth|title=Fall Out Boy share behind-the-scenes look at new music video and other news you might have missed|url=https://www.altpress.com/news/entry/fall_out_boy_wilson_expensive_mistakes_behind_the_scenes|publisher=[Alternative Press](/source/Alternative_Press_(magazine))|accessdate=26 January 2018}}</ref> ''The Yunahon Mixtape'' was repressed following the release of their first EP ''gb/ol h/nf / subside'' with Triple Crown Records.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://triplecrownrecords.com/search?q=%22new+oso+oso+things%22|title=Triple Crown Records|website=triplecrownrecords.com|language=en|access-date=2018-07-29|archive-date=December 9, 2023|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20231209150848/https://triplecrownrecords.com/search?q=%22new+oso+oso+things%22|url-status=dead}}</ref> In June of 2018 the band released ''gb/ol h/nf / subside,'' their first release since signing with [Triple Crown Records](/source/Triple_Crown_Records).

== Influences ==
Lilitri cites fellow Long Island emo bands [Brand New](/source/Brand_New_(band)) and [Taking Back Sunday](/source/Taking_Back_Sunday) as influences, recalling how often he listened to their respective sophomore albums ''[Deja Entendu](/source/Deja_Entendu)'' and ''[Where You Want to Be](/source/Where_You_Want_to_Be)'' in elementary school. His first concert was [Bayside](/source/Bayside_(band)) at a small club in 2006, with then-little known [Paramore](/source/Paramore) as the opening act. He was also influenced by [Archers of Loaf](/source/Archers_of_Loaf), [The Cars](/source/The_Cars), and [Death Cab for Cutie](/source/Death_Cab_for_Cutie).<ref>{{Cite web |title=Oso Oso's Enlightened Emo |url=https://pitchfork.com/features/rising/oso-oso-basking-in-the-glow-interview/ |access-date=2022-03-24 |website=Pitchfork |date=13 December 2019 |language=en}}</ref>
