# Ortobene

**Mount Ortobene** (*Orthobene* in the [local dialect](/source/Nuorese_dialect)) is a [mountain](/source/Mountain) in the [province of Nuoro](/source/Province_of_Nuoro), in central [Sardinia](/source/Sardinia), Italy, close to the town of [Nuoro](/source/Nuoro).

There are two main parks: "Sedda Ortai" and "Il Redentore". At the feet of the mountain is a [nuraghe](/source/Nuraghe) archaeological area including the [Domus de janas](/source/Domus_de_janas) tombs. On the mountain's top is the bronze "Statue of Christ the Redeemer" by Vincenzo Jerace (1901).

Flora of the Ortobene include mostly [holm oaks](/source/Quercus_ilex), while wildlife include Sardinian [wild boar](/source/Wild_boar), [weasel](/source/Mustela_nivalis), [marten](/source/Marten), [garden dormouse](/source/Eliomys_quercinus), [Sardinian fox](/source/Vulpes_vulpes), [European hare](/source/European_hare), [Barbary partridge](/source/Barbary_partridge), [great](/source/Great_spotted_woodpecker) and [lesser spotted woodpecker](/source/Lesser_spotted_woodpecker), [Eurasian jay](/source/Eurasian_jay), [blue rock-thrush](/source/Blue_rock-thrush), [wood pigeon](/source/Common_wood_pigeon), [Dartford warbler](/source/Dartford_warbler), [goshawk](/source/Northern_goshawk), [Eurasian sparrowhawk](/source/Eurasian_sparrowhawk), [common kestrel](/source/Common_kestrel), [peregrine falcon](/source/Peregrine_falcon) and [golden eagle](/source/Golden_eagle).

No, it's not true that the Ortobene can be compared to other mountains; there's only one Ortobene in the whole world: it's our heart, it's our soul, our character, everything big and small, kind and tough and rough and sorrowful in us.
