**Optware** is a free software [package manager](/source/Package_manager) for [embedded systems](/source/Embedded_system). Originally developed as a distribution mechanism for the [Unslung](/source/Unslung) [Linux distribution](/source/Linux_distribution) for the [Linksys](/source/Linksys) [NSLU2](/source/NSLU2), Optware has been adopted by a variety of hobbyist communities and device developers.[1][2]

Optware has been used on a number of platforms, including the [webOS](/source/WebOS) community working on the [Palm Pre](/source/Palm_Pre)[3] and [Pixi](/source/Pixi), the WL-500g, WL-HDD, WL-500gx, WL-500gP [Asus routers](/source/Asus_routers), [Plug computers](/source/Plug_computer) ([Pogoplug](/source/Pogoplug) V1, V2, Pro, Biz, Dockstars, etc.), [Asustor](/source/Asustor) and [Synology](/source/Synology) NAS devices. In late 2010, the first Optware for [Android](/source/Android_(operating_system)) was released by the Novaports team for the [Nook Color](/source/Barnes_%26_Noble_Nook_Color).

Optware is no longer maintained. The authors have switched to **Optware-ng**.[citation needed]
