The '''operklosterneuburg''' is an Austrian opera festival held annually in the baroque imperial courtyard of [Klosterneuburg Abbey](/source/Klosterneuburg_Abbey) in [Lower Austria](/source/Lower_Austria).

== History ==
The festival was founded in 1993 by Alexander Hermann and Sonja Fletzberger and takes place in July and August. Since 1998 it has been under the direction of [Michael Garschall](/source/Michael_Garschall).

In contrast to other Austrian summer festivals, the Klosterneuburg Opera follows a moderately modern line in its productions. The directors who have worked here include Max Augenfeld, {{Ill|Nikolaus Büchel|de}}, {{Ill|François de Carpentries|de}}, Michael Garschall, [Isabella Gregor](/source/Isabella_Gregor), Andy Hallwaxx, Alexander Hauer, [Jens-Daniel Herzog](/source/Jens-Daniel_Herzog), {{Ill|Gernot Kranner|de}} (children's versions), [Markus Kupferblum](/source/Markus_Kupferblum), Matthias Lutz, {{Ill|Henry Mason (director)|lt=Henry Mason|de|Henry Mason (Regisseur)}} and [Julian Pölsler](/source/Julian_P%C3%B6lsler), {{Ill|Michael Scheidl|de}}, [Karl M. Sibelius](/source/Karl_M._Sibelius), {{Ill|Kurt Sobotka|de}}, [Matthias von Stegmann](/source/Matthias_von_Stegmann), {{Ill|Alexander Waechter|de}}. The comparatively sparse furnishings are closely matched to the existing architecture. The natural acoustics of the Abbey courtyard enable singing without amplification or other technical manipulation. For numerous soloists, a performance at the festival was a springboard to an international career.<ref>[https://www.wienerwald.info/ausflug/a-oper-klosterneuburg Oper Klosterneuburg] on Wienner Wald</ref>

Initially, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Konstantin Schenk, Andreas Stöhr and [Matthias Fletzberger](/source/Matthias_Fletzberger) was the main orchestra. Since 2000, the Sinfonietta Baden (since 2017 {{Ill|Beethoven Philharmonie|de}}, which has performed under various conductors - including [Guido Mancusi](/source/Guido_Mancusi) (1997 to 2000), [Thomas Rösner](/source/Thomas_R%C3%B6sner) (2001 to 2003, 2014), [Andrés Orozco-Estrada](/source/Andr%C3%A9s_Orozco-Estrada) (2004 to 2007), {{Ill|Enrico Calesso|de}} (2008 to 2010), {{Ill|Vinzenz Praxmarer|de}} (2011) and [Christoph Campestrini](/source/Christoph_Campestrini) (2012, 2013, since 2015) - have been involved.<ref>[https://www.operabase.com/companies/austria/oper-klosterneuburg-29/fr Oper Klosterneuburg] on Operabase</ref>
