***Operation Nam*** (Italian: ***Cobra Mission***) is a 1986 [Euro War film](/source/Euro_War) co-written, produced, and directed by [Fabrizio De Angelis](/source/Fabrizio_De_Angelis) (credited as 'Larry Ludman'). It stars [Oliver Tobias](/source/Oliver_Tobias), [Christopher Connelly](/source/Christopher_Connelly), [Manfred Lehmann](/source/Manfred_Lehmann), [John Steiner](/source/John_Steiner), [Ethan Wayne](/source/Ethan_Wayne), [Gordon Mitchell](/source/Gordon_Mitchell) and [Donald Pleasence](/source/Donald_Pleasence).

## Plot

Ten years after the end of the [Vietnam War](/source/Vietnam_War), three American veterans who have never resigned themselves to defeat decided to organize a mission to return to Indochina. Their goal is to liberate the "[missing in action](/source/Vietnam_War_POW/MIA_issue)", i.e. all those fellow soldiers taken prisoner by the [Viet Cong](/source/Viet_Cong) and never let go.

## Production

The film was an international co-production between Italy's Fulvia International Film and West Germany's Ascot Film. Shooting took place on-location in [the Philippines](/source/Philippines) and [Scottsdale, Arizona](/source/Scottsdale,_Arizona), and at De Paolis Studios in [Rome](/source/Rome).

## Release

*Operation Nam* was released in West Germany as *Die Rückkehr der Wildgänse* (lit. "The Return of [the Wild Geese](/source/The_Wild_Geese)") on July 31, 1986.[1] It was later released in Italy on August 14, 1986 in Milan, Florence, and Naples as *Cobra Mission*.[2]

## Sequel

The film had a sequel, *Cobra Mission 2*, released in 1988.[3]
