'''Opera Quotannis''' (OQ) was a New York-based [opera](/source/opera) company which was founded in 1990, with conductor Bart Folse as music director and stage director Brian Morgan (formerly of [The New Opera Theatre](/source/The_New_Opera_Theatre)) serving as artistic director. It specialized in experimental productions of both ancient and contemporary opera.

The ensemble's first production was in January 1991, Gluck's ''[Orfeo ed Euridice](/source/Orfeo_ed_Euridice)'', with [countertenor](/source/countertenor) [Derek Lee Ragin](/source/Derek_Lee_Ragin) as Orpheus and [soprano](/source/soprano) Tracey Mitchell as Euridice, with a [period-instrument orchestra](/source/Historically_informed_performance), at the [Church of St Paul the Apostle](/source/St._Paul_the_Apostle_Church_(Manhattan)) on the [Upper West Side](/source/Upper_West_Side). Later in 1991, they mounted Monteverdi's ''[Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda](/source/Il_combattimento_di_Tancredi_e_Clorinda)'', again with a period orchestra.

In 1992, OQ produced the New York premiere of Louise LaBruyère's ''Everyman'', after the [medieval morality play](/source/Everyman_(15th-century_play)). Mitchell sang the title role, with [Cyril and Libbye Hellier](/source/Cyril_and_Libbye_Hellier) as Kindred and Cousin, respectively. The production then toured to New Orleans. In 1995, the company presented a staged version of Schoenberg's ''[Pierrot Lunaire](/source/Pierrot_Lunaire)'' (with Christine Schadeberg), at the [New School for Social Research](/source/New_School_for_Social_Research).

In March 1997, Opera Quotannis presented their final production, the original ''[opéra-comique](/source/op%C3%A9ra-comique)'' version of Cherubini's ''[Médée](/source/M%C3%A9d%C3%A9e_(Cherubini))'', at [Alice Tully Hall](/source/Alice_Tully_Hall), [Lincoln Center](/source/Lincoln_Center), marking the bicentennial of the work's premiere. In the cast were [Phyllis Treigle](/source/Phyllis_Treigle), Carl Halvorson, [D'Anna Fortunato](/source/D'Anna_Fortunato), David Arnold, [Thaïs St Julien](/source/Tha%C3%AFs_St_Julien), [Jayne West](/source/Jayne_West) and Andrea Matthews. Subsequently, Newport Classic recorded the production for release on compact discs.
