Informatics started [metadata](/source/metadata) aggregation from open access journals as part of the development of [J-Gate](/source/J-Gate). Open J-Gate claimed to aggregate metadata from more than 4,000 open access journals published in the [English language](/source/English_language) around the globe.{{Citation needed|date=February 2010}} Open J-Gate indexed articles from available [e-journal](/source/e-journal)s in the open access domain, both from the scholarly and popular domains.{{Citation needed|date=June 2009}} It indexed [peer-reviewed](/source/peer-reviewed_journal) and non-peer reviewed [professional magazine](/source/professional_magazine)s, as well as [trade](/source/trade_journal) and industry journals.
