The **Omineca Mountains**, also known as **"the Ominecas"**, are a group of remote [mountain ranges](/source/Mountain_range) in the [Boreal Cordillera](/source/Boreal_Cordillera) of north-central [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia), [Canada](/source/Canada). They are bounded by the [Finlay River](/source/Finlay_River) on the north, the [Rocky Mountain Trench](/source/Rocky_Mountain_Trench) (here filled by [Williston Lake](/source/Williston_Lake)) on the east, the [Nation Lakes](/source/Nation_River_(British_Columbia)) on the south, and the upper reaches of the Omineca River on the west.[1][2][3] They form a section of the [Continental Divide](/source/Continental_Divide_of_the_Americas), that, in this region, separates water drainage between the Arctic and Pacific Oceans. The lower course of the Omineca River flows through the heart of the range. To the south of the Ominecas is the [Nechako Plateau](/source/Nechako_Plateau), to the west the [Skeena Mountains](/source/Skeena_Mountains) and [Hazelton Mountains](/source/Hazelton_Mountains), to the north the [Spatsizi Plateau](/source/Spatsizi_Plateau) and the [Stikine Ranges](/source/Stikine_Ranges), while east across the Rocky Mountain Trench are the [Muskwa Ranges](/source/Muskwa_Ranges).

"The Omineca" or "the [Omineca Country](/source/Omineca_Country)" is the entire area plus some of the northern [Nechako Plateau](/source/Nechako_Plateau) adjacent to the Ominecas, where there has been more settlement and, in the past, extensive gold-mining exploration and prospecting (in the same period as the [Omineca](/source/Omineca_Gold_Rush), [Fraser Canyon](/source/Fraser_Canyon_Gold_Rush) and [Cariboo Gold Rushes](/source/Cariboo_Gold_Rush), i.e. 1860s).
