# Omanthai

**Omanthai** is a little town in North [Sri Lankan](/source/Sri_Lanka) district of [Vavuniya](/source/Vavuniya_District). This was where the last Sri Lankan army check point which divided the Government and [LTTE](/source/LTTE) controlled areas used to be for many years during the [Sri Lankan Civil War](/source/Sri_Lankan_Civil_War).

## Transport

[Omanthai railway station](/source/Omanthai_railway_station) is served by the [Northern Line](/source/Sri_Lanka_Railways#Northern_Line) of the [Sri Lanka Railways](/source/Sri_Lanka_Railways). The town is temporarily the terminus of the line, while the track is being rebuilt to [Jaffna](/source/Jaffna) and [Kankesanturai](/source/Kankesanturai).[1] The railway station was one of the later stations to re-open after being closed during the civil war.
