The '''Oliver Bridge''' is a bridge across the [Saint Louis River](/source/Saint_Louis_River_(Lake_Superior_tributary)). It was constructed in 1910 as a railway bridge<ref name=mndot>{{cite web |title=Oliver Bridge (Bridge 6544) |url=https://www.dot.state.mn.us/historicbridges/6544.html |website=Minnesota Department of Transportation |access-date=April 30, 2022}}</ref> by the Interstate Transfer Railway Company, a Wisconsin corporation, under special federal authorization from the [60th United States Congress](/source/60th_United_States_Congress).{{citation needed|date=April 2022}} A lower deck carrying road traffic was constructed in 1917<ref name=mndot/> It connects the [Gary – New Duluth](/source/Gary_%E2%80%93_New_Duluth) neighborhood in [Duluth](/source/Duluth%2C_Minnesota), [Minnesota](/source/Minnesota) with the village of [Oliver](/source/Oliver%2C_Wisconsin), [Wisconsin](/source/Wisconsin). The bridge is {{convert|1889|ft|m}} long<ref name=mndot/> and is principally of [steel truss](/source/Truss_bridge) construction.

The upper deck carries a single track rail line and a lower deck carries the road connecting [Wisconsin Highway 105](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_105) to [Minnesota State Highway 39](/source/Minnesota_State_Highway_39).<ref>{{cite web| last = Bessert| first = Christopher J.| title = Wisconsin Highways| year = 2008| url = http://www.wisconsinhighways.org/listings/WiscHwys100-109.html| access-date = 2008-03-11}}</ref>

The upper deck was built to allow a [streetcar](/source/streetcar) line to be constructed from Gary–New Duluth to south [Superior](/source/Superior%2C_Wisconsin) connecting the Duluth and Superior streetcar systems. The line was never built and the systems were connected across the [Twin Ports](/source/Twin_Ports) Harbor.

On the Oliver side, a section of the bridge was built to swing, allowing passage of large vessels despite the river only being navigable for a few miles upstream of the bridge. Only one vessel is ever thought to have used this facility, a ferry excursion boat operating between the Duluth harbor and the [Fond du Lac](/source/Fond_du_Lac_(Duluth)) neighborhood of Duluth. The ferry service ceased in the 1930s and the swing section has not operated since.

The road deck was originally a wooden deck. Modernization came in 2000 when both states' transportation departments ([WisDOT](/source/WisDOT) and [Mn/DOT](/source/Mn%2FDOT)) cooperated with the [Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway](/source/Duluth%2C_Missabe_and_Iron_Range_Railway) to jointly fund a reconstruction of the roadway surface, which is constructed of a stronger steel with a reinforced concrete deck. A weight restriction, which was lowered to one ton as the road deck deteriorated, was then lifted.

A pedestrian walkway atop the railway deck fell into disrepair and is no longer usable.

The Oliver Bridge is owned by the [Canadian National Railway](/source/Canadian_National_Railway).
