**Olga Fitzroy** (born February 1982)[2] is a German-born sound engineer at [Associated Independent Recording](/source/Associated_Independent_Recording) (AIR) studios and a campaigner for shared [parental leave](/source/Parental_leave) and [fair pay](/source/Gender_pay_gap).[3][4][5][1]

## Early life

Fitzroy was born in Berlin, Germany.[6] and educated at [Madras College](/source/Madras_College)[7] in [St Andrews](/source/St_Andrews), Scotland.[4] She initially wanted to be a drummer in a [punk rock](/source/Punk_rock) band,[8] but completed a [Tonmeister](/source/Tonmeister) degree at the [University of Surrey](/source/University_of_Surrey) which included a [placement](/source/Sandwich_degree) as a runner at AIR studios.[1]

## Professional career

Fitzroy works for [Associated Independent Recording](/source/Associated_Independent_Recording) (AIR) studios[9] in [Hampstead](/source/Hampstead), London.[4] She has worked with [George Michael](/source/George_Michael),[4] [Paul McCartney](/source/Paul_McCartney) on the [*Love* album](/source/Love_(Beatles_album)), [Chris Martin](/source/Chris_Martin) from [Coldplay](/source/Coldplay), [Dave Grohl](/source/Dave_Grohl) from the [Foo Fighters](/source/Foo_Fighters), [Matt Bellamy](/source/Matt_Bellamy) from [Muse](/source/Muse_(band)), and [Hans Zimmer](/source/Hans_Zimmer).[10][11] She has mixed music for the [London 2012 Olympics](/source/2012_Summer_Olympics).[6][10][4][12] As of 2023 her recent projects include [The Crown season 5](/source/The_Crown_(season_5)), [Live In Buenos Aires](/source/Live_in_Buenos_Aires_(Coldplay_album)) by [Coldplay](/source/Coldplay), and [Doctor Who season 13.](/source/Doctor_Who_(season_13))[6][9][10] She formerly served as a member of the [Music Producers Guild](/source/Music_Producers_Guild) (MPG) board of directors [13][14]

## Campaigning and politics

Fitzroy unsuccessfully stood as parliamentary candidate for the [Labour Party](/source/Labour_Party_(UK)) in [Croydon South](/source/Croydon_South_(UK_Parliament_constituency))[15] in the [2019 General Election](/source/2019_United_Kingdom_general_election) against the winning [Conservative](/source/Conservative_Party(UK)) incumbent [Chris Philp](/source/Chris_Philp). She is the founder of Parental Pay Equality[16] and worked closely with [Tracy Brabin](/source/Tracy_Brabin) on the Selfieleave Bill to give shared parental leave to the self-employed in 2018.[17]

During Covid she worked pro-bono for the charity *Pregnant Then Screwed*, leading their work on a judicial review against the chancellor for discrimination in the SEISS scheme.[18]

She was elected as a councillor for [St Martin's](/source/St_Martin's_(Lambeth_ward)) ward in Lambeth in the May 2022 [local elections](/source/2022_Lambeth_London_Borough_Council_election).

She stood to be the Labour [prospective parliamentary candidate](/source/Prospective_parliamentary_candidate) for the new constituency of [Croydon East](/source/Croydon_East_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) at the [2024 general election](/source/2024_United_Kingdom_general_election).[19] She lost the nomination to [Natasha Irons](/source/Natasha_Irons_(politician)).

## Awards and honours

Fitzroy was named recording engineer of the year at the [Music Producers Guild](/source/Music_Producers_Guild) (MPG) awards in 2016.[20] She was recognised by [BBC Radio 4](/source/BBC_Radio_4) on *[Woman's Hour](/source/Woman's_Hour)* power list in 2018[21] for her successful campaign for shared [parental leave](/source/Parental_leave) and [maternity](/source/Maternity) allowance for [self-employed](/source/Self-employment) and [freelance staff](/source/Freelancer). In 2019 she was awarded the [Ivors Academy](/source/The_Ivors_Academy) Gold Badge Award[22] and also the 2019 campaigner of the year award at *[Music Week](/source/Music_Week)'*s [women in music](/source/Women_in_music) awards.,[23] which was presented by [Tom Watson](/source/Tom_Watson%2C_Baron_Watson_of_Wyre_Forest).
