**Ojdula** (Hungarian: *Ozsdola*, Hungarian pronunciation: ) is a commune in [Covasna County](/source/Covasna_County), [Transylvania](/source/Transylvania), [Romania](/source/Romania) composed of two villages: Hilib (*Hilib*) and Ojdula.

## Geography

The commune is situated in a hilly region in the [Eastern Carpathians](/source/Divisions_of_the_Carpathians), on the banks of the river [Ojdula](/source/Ojdula_(river)). It is located in the eastern part of Covasna County, 10 km (6.2 mi) east of [Târgu Secuiesc](/source/T%C3%A2rgu_Secuiesc) and about 45 km (28 mi) northeast of the county seat, [Sfântu Gheorghe](/source/Sf%C3%A2ntu_Gheorghe), on the border with [Vrancea County](/source/Vrancea_County). Ojdula is crossed by [national road](/source/Roads_in_Romania) [DN2D](/source/DN2D), which runs from Târgu Secuiesc to [Focșani](/source/Foc%C8%99ani).

Census data

The commune has an absolute [Székely](/source/Sz%C3%A9kelys) [Hungarian](/source/Hungarians_in_Romania) majority. At the 2002 census it had a population of 3,520, of which 92.47% or 3,255 are Hungarian. At the [2021 census](/source/2021_Romanian_census), Ojdula had a population of 3,482, of which 83.83% were Hungarians, 9.02% [Roma](/source/Romani_people_in_Romania), and 4.19% [Romanians](/source/Romanians).[2]

## History

The locality formed part of the [Székely Land](/source/Sz%C3%A9kely_Land) region of the historical [Transylvania](/source/Transylvania) province. Until 1918, the village belonged to the [Háromszék County](/source/H%C3%A1romsz%C3%A9k_County) of the [Kingdom of Hungary](/source/Kingdom_of_Hungary). In the aftermath of [World War I](/source/World_War_I), the [Union of Transylvania with Romania](/source/Union_of_Transylvania_with_Romania) was declared in December 1918. At the start of the [Hungarian–Romanian War](/source/Hungarian%E2%80%93Romanian_War) of 1918–1919, Ojdula passed under Romanian administration. After the [Treaty of Trianon](/source/Treaty_of_Trianon) of 1920, it became part of the [Kingdom of Romania](/source/Kingdom_of_Romania) and fell within [plasa](/source/Plas%C4%83) Târgu Secuiesc of [Trei Scaune County](/source/Trei_Scaune_County). In 1940, the [Second Vienna Award](/source/Second_Vienna_Award) granted [Northern Transylvania](/source/Northern_Transylvania) to the [Kingdom of Hungary](/source/Kingdom_of_Hungary_(1920%E2%80%931946)). In September 1944, during [World War II](/source/World_War_II), Romanian and [Soviet](/source/Soviet_Union) armies entered the locality. The territory of Northern Transylvania remained under Soviet military administration until March 9, 1945, after which it became again part of Romania. Between 1952 and 1960, Ojdula belonged to the [Magyar Autonomous Region](/source/Magyar_Autonomous_Region), and between 1960 and 1968 it was part of Târgu Secuiesc [raion](/source/Raion) in [Brașov Region](/source/Stalin_Region). In 1968, when Romania was reorganized based on counties rather than regions, the commune became part of Covasna County.
