It was a 45-minute live television program, broadcast by German public TV station [SWF](/source/S%C3%BCdwestrundfunk) featuring international [pop](/source/pop_music) and [rock](/source/rock_music) groups. In contrast to ''[Rockpalast](/source/Rockpalast)'' ([WDR](/source/Westdeutscher_Rundfunk)), which was broadcast from larger venues such as the [Grugahalle](/source/Grugahalle), ''Ohne Filter'' was produced at the more intimate setting of a regular TV studio. By the end of 1983, it had become one of the most popular [German television](/source/Television_in_Germany) music programs. Around 300 episodes were produced, including performances by [Chaka Khan](/source/Chaka_Khan), [Joe Cocker](/source/Joe_Cocker), and [Deep Purple](/source/Deep_Purple), to name but a few.
