Group of isomers (C8H17OH)

Not to be confused with [octanal](/source/Octanal), [octanyl](/source/Octanyl), [octanoyl](/source/Octanoyl), [octenol](/source/Octenol), [octynol](/source/Octynol), or [octonal](/source/Octonal_(disambiguation)).

**Octanols** are [alcohols](/source/Alcohol_(chemistry)) with the formula C8H17OH. A simple and important member is [1-octanol](/source/1-octanol), with an unbranched chain of carbons. Other commercially important octanols are [2-octanol](/source/2-octanol) and [2-ethylhexanol](/source/2-ethylhexanol). Some octanols occur naturally in the form of [esters](/source/Ester) in some essential oils.[1]

## Isomers

There are 89 possible [isomers](/source/Isomer) of octanol,[2] including:

- [1-Octanol](/source/1-Octanol)

- [2-Octanol](/source/2-Octanol)

- [3-Octanol](/source/3-Octanol)

- [2-Ethylhexanol](/source/2-Ethylhexanol)
