***Obaba*** is a 2005 Spanish-German drama film directed by [Montxo Armendáriz](/source/Montxo_Armend%C3%A1riz) based on [Bernardo Atxaga](/source/Bernardo_Atxaga)'s novel *[Obabakoak](/source/Obabakoak)*.[1] It features [Pilar López de Ayala](/source/Pilar_L%C3%B3pez_de_Ayala), [Juan Diego Botto](/source/Juan_Diego_Botto), [Bárbara Lennie](/source/B%C3%A1rbara_Lennie), [Eduard Fernández](/source/Eduard_Fern%C3%A1ndez), and [Peter Lohmeyer](/source/Peter_Lohmeyer).

*Obaba* was selected as the Spanish entry for the [Best Foreign Language Film](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Foreign_Language_Film) at the [78th Academy Awards](/source/78th_Academy_Awards), but it was not nominated.

## Release

The film was released theatrically in Spain on 16 September 2005.[1]
