The hotel where the restaurant is housed was the location where ''[Oberbefehlshaber Niederlande](/source/25th_Army_(Wehrmacht))'' German commander-in-chief ''[Generaloberst](/source/Generaloberst)'' [Johannes Blaskowitz](/source/Johannes_Blaskowitz) surrendered to [I Canadian Corps](/source/I_Canadian_Corps) commander [Lieutenant-General](/source/Lieutenant-general_(Canada)) [Charles Foulkes](/source/Charles_Foulkes_(Canadian_Army_officer)) on 5 May 1945, ending [World War II](/source/World_War_II) in the Netherlands.
