The name of the mountain in the [Bashkir language](/source/Bashkir_language) means "luminous bird".<ref name="CO"/>

==Geography==
Nurgush is a subrange of the [Urals](/source/Urals). It stretches roughly from SSW to NNE for {{convert|50|km|mi}} in the southern section of the long Ural chain. The range stretches between the southern shore of lake [Zyuratkul](/source/Zyuratkul) to the mouth of river [Berezyak](/source/Berezyak). The highest point is {{convert|1406|m|}} high, rising in the Bolshoy Nurgush section located in the northern part. Maly Nurgush is the southern section. ==Flora==
The lower slopes of the Nurgush are partly covered with dark coniferous [taiga](/source/taiga); there is mixed [spruce](/source/spruce), [fir](/source/fir) and [birch](/source/birch) forest in the valleys.
