**Rodrigo Torres de la Garza** (born April 27, 1998), known professionally as **Nsqk** (pronounced as [Nesquik](/source/Nesquik)), is a Mexican rapper, singer-songwriter and producer.[1]

## Early life

Torres was born in [Monterrey](/source/Monterrey), Mexico. He grew up in [Houston](/source/Houston), Texas, after moving with his family from an early age.[2] He initially started recording music at the age of thirteen after discovering how tracks of [Skrillex](/source/Skrillex), [Swedish House Mafia](/source/Swedish_House_Mafia) and [Avicii](/source/Avicii) were produced, using a [laptop](/source/Laptop) with a 97 version of [Windows 95](/source/Windows_95) installed.[3]

His stage name origins due to a friend on [Instagram](/source/Instagram) responding ironically that Nsqk should be his artistic pseudonym, since Torres [username](/source/User_(computing)) being "nsqkpapi" at the time as a mocking reference to Canadian rapper [Drake](/source/Drake_(musician)), and to monikers used by the members of [ASAP Mob](/source/ASAP_Mob) as well.[4]

## Career

He released his debut [EP](/source/Extended_play) *Botánica* in 2020 through the independent label Honey Records, which combined [pop](/source/Pop_music), [rap](/source/Hip_hop_music), [R&B](/source/Rhythm_and_blues), and [EDM](/source/Electronic_dance_music) sounds.[5] His debut full-length album, *Roy*, was released in late 2022, which led Torres to perform at various prestigious festivals throughout Latin America, such as [Ceremonia](/source/Festival_Ceremonia) in 2023 and [Lollapalooza Chile](/source/Lollapalooza_Chile) in 2024.[6]

In 2024, Torres co-wrote and was featured in "Mami 100pre Sabe", the tenth track on the third studio album of Puerto Rican rapper [Álvaro Díaz](/source/%C3%81lvaro_D%C3%ADaz_(singer)), *[Sayonara](/source/%C3%81lvaro_D%C3%ADaz_(singer)#Albums_and_EPs)*.[7] He released his debut [mixtape](/source/Mixtape) *ATP* months later, with the inclusion of Mexican [Twitch streamer](/source/Twitch_(service)#Creators_and_audience) and [YouTuber](/source/YouTuber) El Mariana during interlude skits.[8] The mixtape was named one of the best Latin rising-act albums of 2024 by *[Billboard](/source/Billboard_(magazine)),*[9] and was placed at number 82 on the year-end list of "The 100 Best Albums of 2024" by *[Rolling Stone](/source/Rolling_Stone)*.[10]
