Notaspidea, also known as the '''sidegill slugs''', was a [suborder](/source/suborder) which included both [sea slug](/source/sea_slug)s and sea snails or false [limpet](/source/limpet)s, [marine](/source/marine_(ocean)) [opisthobranch](/source/opisthobranch) [gastropod](/source/gastropod) [mollusc](/source/mollusc)s in the [subclass](/source/Class_(biology)) [Orthogastropoda](/source/Orthogastropoda).
However, in the newer [taxonomy of Bouchet & Rocroi](/source/Taxonomy_of_the_Gastropoda_(Bouchet_%26_Rocroi%2C_2005)) (2005), the families Umbraculidae and Tylodinidae belong to the superfamily Umbraculoidea [Dall](/source/W.H._Dall), 1889, part of the [clade](/source/clade) Umbraculida. Grande ''et al.'' (2004) found Umbraculoidea to be a sister clade to the [Cephalaspidea](/source/Cephalaspidea) (Acteonoidea excluded).<ref>{{cite journal |author1=Grande C. |author2=J. The families [Tylodinidae](/source/Tylodinidae) and [Umbraculidae](/source/Umbraculidae) have large limpet-like external shells and a small [mantle](/source/mantle_(mollusc)), while the species in the family [Pleurobranchidae](/source/Pleurobranchidae) have a prominent mantle and an internal shell that becomes reduced or is lost in adults.<ref name="Notaspidea">{{cite journal | author=R.
