# North Cregg

**North Cregg** are an [Irish](/source/Irish_music) traditional band from [Cork](/source/Cork_(city)). They formed in 1996 from Cork's pub session scene.[1]

The band's name comes from a tune composed by [uilleann](/source/Uilleann) piper Jimmy Morrison, who named his composition after a small town near [Fermoy](/source/Fermoy), County Cork.[2]

As of 2010, North Cregg consists of Christy Leahy ([button box](/source/Button_accordion)), Liam Flannigan (fiddle, banjo), Ciaran Coughlan (piano), Martin Leahy (guitar, drums), and vocalist Claire-Anne Lynch, who also plays fiddle.[3]

The band were voted "Best Traditional Newcomers" at the Irish Music Magazine Millennium Awards in 2000,[4] and by 2008, they had played at [Glastonbury](/source/Glastonbury_Festival) and folk festivals including [Irish Fest](/source/Milwaukee_Irish_Fest) (Milwaukee), [Tønder Festival](/source/T%C3%B8nder_Festival) (Denmark), and [Celtic Connections](/source/Celtic_Connections) (Glasgow).[5][6]

As of , the group has released four studio albums.[7] The latest, titled *The Roseland Barndance*, came out in February 2007 and included guest appearances by Dirk Powell ([clawhammer banjo](/source/Clawhammer)), Chris McCarthy ([double bass](/source/Double_bass)), and Seamus Burns ([spoons](/source/Spoon_(musical_instrument))).[8]
