# Norm Verry

**David Norman Verry** (September 18, 1922 – October 12, 1961) was an American professional [football](/source/American_football) player and coach. He played [college football](/source/College_football) at the [University of California](/source/University_of_California) (USC), earning third-team [All-America](/source/1942_College_Football_All-America_Team) and first-team [All-Pacific Coast](/source/1942_All-Pacific_Coast_football_team) honors in 1942 as [Tackle](/source/Tackle_(gridiron_football_position)). Verry played professionally with [Chicago Rockets](/source/Chicago_Rockets) of the [All-America Football Conference](/source/All-America_Football_Conference) (AAFC) from 1946 to 1947. He served as the head football coach at [El Camino College](/source/El_Camino_College) in [Alondra Park, California](/source/Alondra_Park,_California) from 1952 to 1960, compiling a record of 54–27–2.

Verry coached the line at his alma mater, USC, in 1947 and 1948. In 1949, he assisted Marty Arnaga in coaching the football team at [Inglewood High School](/source/Inglewood_High_School_(California)) in [Inglewood, California](/source/Inglewood,_California). He joined the staff at El Camino as line coach in 1950 and succeeded [Ambrose Schindler](/source/Ambrose_Schindler) as head football coach two years later.[1][2]

Verry died on October 12, 1961, at [St. Vincent's Hospital](/source/St._Vincent_Medical_Center_(Los_Angeles)) in [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles), after suffering a brain hemorrhage three weeks prior.[3]
