**Ahinora Kumanova** ([Bulgarian](/source/Bulgarian_language): Ахинора Куманова; 8 May 1928 – 9 February 2022), better known by the stage name of **Nora Nova**, was a Bulgarian and German singer. She was the first Bulgarian to participate in the [Eurovision Song Contest](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest). She represented [West Germany](/source/Germany_in_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest_1964) in [1964](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_1964).[1] [Bulgaria](/source/Bulgaria_in_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest) itself first participated only in 2005.

Her father was an official of [Tsar](/source/Tsar) [Boris III](/source/Boris_III) of [Bulgaria](/source/Kingdom_of_Bulgaria) and she reported that she was raised a [monarchist](/source/Monarchism).[2] After the [regime change](/source/Bulgarian_coup_d'%C3%A9tat_of_1944) in the end of [World War II](/source/World_War_II), some of her relatives were sent to the [Belene concentration camp](/source/Belene_concentration_camp) or sentenced to death by the [People's Court](/source/People's_Court_(Bulgaria)).[2]

In 1959, Ahinora left [Communist Bulgaria](/source/People's_Republic_of_Bulgaria) by contracting a marriage in name only with a German national. After she came to [West Germany](/source/West_Germany) in 1960, she won a singing contest called *Die große Chance* ("The Great Chance") organized by [Electrola](/source/Electrola), a West German [recording company](/source/Recording_company). After scoring a number of hits in the West German and Swiss charts, in 1964, she was chosen to represent West Germany at the [Copenhagen](/source/Copenhagen) Eurovision Song Contest finals.[3] Her song, "[Man gewöhnt sich so schnell an das Schöne](/source/Man_gew%C3%B6hnt_sich_so_schnell_an_das_Sch%C3%B6ne)", had the longest name in Eurovision Song Contest history alongside [C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison](/source/C'est_le_dernier_qui_a_parl%C3%A9_qui_a_raison) which represented [France](/source/France_in_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest) in [1991](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_1991), until both were succeeded by [The Social Network Song (Oh Oh - Uh - Oh Oh)](/source/The_Social_Network_Song) which represented [San Marino](/source/San_Marino_in_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest) in [2012](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2012). With it she had another record — *[nul points](/source/Nul_points)* for West Germany, and hence 13th (last) place.[4]

Kumanova returned to Bulgaria after the [1989 democratic changes](/source/People's_Republic_of_Bulgaria#End_of_the_People's_Republic). She opened a fashion [boutique](/source/Boutique) shop in [Sofia](/source/Sofia). In 2001, she became one of the founders of the [NDSV](/source/NDSV) political party led by the former Bulgarian [Tsar](/source/Tsar) [Simeon Sakskoburggotski](/source/Simeon_Sakskoburggotski). She had explained that action with her [monarchist](/source/Monarchism) convictions (which she states were the reason for her to leave Bulgaria during Communist rule) and with her belief in the personal integrity of [Tsar Simeon II](/source/Tsar_Simeon_II), whom she referred to as "the tsar" and described as "pure" and an "[icon](/source/Cultural_icon)" with a unique aura.[2]

## Death

She died on 9 February 2022, at the age of 93.[5]
