{{nihongo|'''Nishio Domain'''|西尾藩|Nishio han}} was a [feudal domain](/source/Han_system) of the [Tokugawa shogunate](/source/Tokugawa_shogunate) of [Edo period](/source/Edo_period) Japan, located in former [Mikawa Province](/source/Mikawa_Province), in what is now the modern-day city of [Nishio](/source/Nishio%2C_Aichi) in [Aichi Prefecture](/source/Aichi_Prefecture), [Japan](/source/Japan). It was centered on [Nishio Castle](/source/Nishio_Castle).

==History==
When [Tokugawa Ieyasu](/source/Tokugawa_Ieyasu) became independent of the [Imagawa clan](/source/Imagawa_clan) in 1561, he established Nishio Castle, and assigned his close hereditary retainer, [Sakai Masachika](/source/Sakai_Masachika) to become its first castellan. It was a mark of Ieyasu’s favor and trust, as Sakai Masachika was the first of Ieyasu’s retainers to be so honored. Following the [Battle of Sekigahara](/source/Battle_of_Sekigahara), the [Sakai clan](/source/Sakai_clan) was reassigned to more lucrative territories in western Japan, and was replaced by a branch of the [Honda clan](/source/Honda_clan) as first rulers of the new Nishio-han. The domain changed hands with almost every generation, reverting for periods to ''[tenryō](/source/tenry%C5%8D)'' status under direct control of the [Tokugawa shogunate](/source/Tokugawa_shogunate). The [Doi clan](/source/Doi_clan) held the territory for almost 100 years (1663-1747), and the Ogyu branch of the [Matsudaira clan](/source/Matsudaira_clan) from 1764 until the [Meiji restoration](/source/Meiji_restoration) in 1867.
The final ''[daimyō](/source/daimy%C5%8D)'', Matsudaira Noritsune, took part in the [Second Chōshū expedition](/source/Second_Ch%C5%8Dsh%C5%AB_expedition), and was assigned to guard Osaka and Kyoto, but presided over domain deeply divided between pro- and anti- Shogunal factions. He surrendered to the new [Meiji government](/source/Meiji_government) during the [Boshin War](/source/Boshin_War), after the defection of many junior [samurai](/source/samurai) to the pro-Imperial cause.
The domain had a population of 55,220 people in 13,039 households per the 1867 census, of whom 51,119 people were classed as farmers. The domain maintained its primary residence (kamiyashiki) in [Edo](/source/Edo) at Daimyo-koji, in [Marunouchi](/source/Marunouchi). Until the [An’ei](/source/An%E2%80%99ei) period (1772-1781)<ref>[http://www1.parkcity.ne.jp/sito/132.html Edo daimyo.net] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140616074052/http://www1.parkcity.ne.jp/sito/132.html |date=2014-06-16 }} {{in lang|ja}}</ref>
Nishio Domain was not a single contiguous territory, but consisted of many widely scattered holdings, which at the end of the Edo period consisted of:
*Mikawa Province: 112 villages in [Hazu](/source/Hazu_District%2C_Aichi), 19 villages in Kamo, 7 villages in [Nukata](/source/Nukata_District%2C_Aichi), 4 villages in [Hoi](/source/Hoi_District%2C_Aichi), 1 village in Hekikai
*[Suruga Province](/source/Suruga_Province): 8 villages in Kitō,  2 villages in [Haibara](/source/Haibara_District%2C_Shizuoka),  1 village in [Fuji](/source/Fuji_District%2C_Shizuoka), 1 village in [Suntō](/source/Sunt%C5%8D_District%2C_Shizuoka),
*[Echizen Province](/source/Echizen_Province): 27 villages in [Nyū](/source/Ny%C5%AB_District%2C_Fukui), 7 villages in [Nanjō District, Fukui](/source/Nanj%C5%8D_District%2C_Fukui), 3 villages in [Sakai](/source/Sakai_District%2C_Fukui)

After the [abolition of the han system](/source/abolition_of_the_han_system) in July 1871, the domain became “Nishio Prefecture”, which later became part of [Nukata Prefecture](/source/Nukata_Prefecture), and finally Aichi Prefecture.
